چکیده
strated that EtG, but not EtS, is sensitive to bacterial hydrolysis, particularly when specimens are infected by E. coli, which is the most common source of UTIs. Given that UTIs caused by E. coli are among the most frequent bacterial infections encountered in clinical practice (13 ), this represents an obvious risk factor for false-negative and falsely low EtG results. Because EtG and EtS show similar windows of detection after alcohol consumption (3 ), it may therefore be advantageous and recommended to measure EtS instead of EtG for detection or confirmation of recent drinking, or at least to combine EtG with EtS analysis, which is possible by LC-MS (3, 23 ). In any case, ensuring that specimens are refrigerated or frozen and/or that sampling tubes contain fluoride preservatives to prevent bacterial growth is recommended practice.

The concentration of circulating corticotropin-releasing hormone mRNA in maternal plasma is increased in preeclampsia.
BACKGROUND Increased fetal DNA in maternal plasma/serum has been reported in pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia. We hypothesize that fetal RNA may also be increased in maternal plasma in preeclampsia. METHODS We developed a real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR assay to measure the concentration of the mRNA of the corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) locus. Peripheral blood s...

variations in detection sensitivity and quantification of fetal DNA concentrations were noted among laboratories very familiar with real-time PCR technology (21). Further studies will be needed to clarify this issue in addition to the continued exploration of other strategies for the investigation of complex fetal genetic traits by analysis of maternal plasma. These strategies may include the e...
متن کاملThe Role of Uterine Artery Doppler Ultrasound in the Second Trimester in Predicting Preeclampsia
Background Preeclampsia is a specific pregnancy syndrome. Early diagnosis and proper administration of preeclampsia can lead to improved maternal and neonatal outcome. We aimed to investigate the uterine artery Doppler ultrasound in predicting the preeclampsia in women with a high-risk pregnancy. Materials and Methods This analytic study was conducted on 160 primigravida women with gestational...
متن کاملLateral Hypothalamus Corticotropin Releasing Hormone Receptor-1 Inhibition Modulates Stress- Induced Anxiety Behavior
Stress is a reaction to unwanted events disturbing body homeostasis which influences its pathways and target areas. Stress affects the brain through the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) orexinergic system that mediates the effect of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) through CRH receptor type 1 (CRHr1). Therefore, this study explores the outcome of stress exposure on anxiety development and t...
